Hollywood, CA

The history of modern residential design in LA evoked by Neutra, Schindler and Maston was the inspiration for this innovative home in the Hollywood Hills above Sunset Blvd. The unique site on an unusually level promontory allowed the design to exploit the stunning views from the inside out while at the same time preserving a sense of privacy from the outside in.

Simple geometries expressed in a palette of plaster, painted cement board and wood blend with the site and subtly evoke the formal programmatic volumes. A gentle upward inflection of the roof plane emphasizes the house’s openness to the drama of the views and the free-flowing L shaped plan pivots around a kitchen/service core and helps define a casual lifestyle of integrated indoor/outdoor spaces.
